He is a Partner and Head of Business and Human Rights Department.

He completed his Bachelor of law’s degree (Sarjana Hukum) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 1982 and earned a master of law’s degree (Magister Hukum) from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 2014, and licensed to practice law as an advocate by the Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI).

He joined HNP Law Firm in 2015, prior to join, He was a member of the Indonesian Foundation for Legal Devotion in 1992, where He fought for the rights of victim of the 1965 coup blamed on the now defuct Indonesian Communist Party. Johny was bestowed a Yap Thiam Hien Award in 1992. He was elected commisioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia in 2007-2012.

As a Commisioner in Komnas HAM, he was many experienced with speciality in handling cases and conflict related to criminal and civil law problem specially related to cases and conflict of land and social in oil and gas industry, mining, plantation, forestry and handling cases in Republic of Indonesia Police. In doing his task, He get a lot involve and related with police authority to do case position and handling cases with Human Rights perspective. Doing meetings with state authority such as Police, State Prosecutor, Court and Government in every Indonesia region whether city level or province level to examine complaint from society. As instructor also invited to became speaker or informants in many occasions related to Human Rights in national level or international level.

And also, He has a lot of relevant experience handling cases in the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, besides handling the case, is also frequently invited as a speaker or resource related conflict management and resolution strategies for the development and improvement of management capacity and skills of employees of SOE especially in land conflicts, labour, social conflicts, criminal and security.
